Role Overview
Safe Families for Children (North Carolina Chapter) is seeking a full-time Assistant Director. This hybrid role is based out of our Brier Creek office, requiring a mix of remote work and local travel throughout the RDU Triangle area. 

We are looking for a tenacious, compassionate galvanizer who thrives on meeting new people and forging deep community relationships. In this role, you will master complex social program dynamics, champion prevention work, and inspire stakeholders to care about supporting vulnerable children and families.   • Location: Hybrid (Brier Creek Office / RDU Triangle Travel) 
  • Salary: $60,000 per year

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy & Chapter Development 

  • Growth Strategy: Collaborate closely with the Chapter Director on high-level strategy, fundraising goals, and chapter development to expand our local footprint. 
  • Partner & Community Engagement: Identify, acquire, and build strategic partnerships with local churches and community organizations. 
  • Advocacy & Communication: Articulate complex social dynamics and the value of prevention work to inspire stakeholder investment.


Process Management 

  • Community Partner Collaboration: Facilitate the high-level collaboration and debrief process for our referral sources and community partners. 
  • Operational Leadership: Drive continuous improvement of chapter processes and workflows. Standardize acquisition and lifecycle management for volunteers and community partners. 


Volunteer & Resource Management 

  • Volunteer Lifecycle: Manage the volunteer network onboarding (including home safety checks and interviews), engagement, and annual reassessment processes. Coordinate routine volunteer appreciation initiatives. 
  • On-Call: Participate in on-call weekend rotation 1-2 weekends per month
  • Resource Oversight: Manage chapter resource requests and distribution.
  • Event Planning: Assist with the planning, preparation, and execution of chapter events, fundraisers, and community gatherings.

  • Mission Alignment: Understanding of SFFC vision/mission/goals and a desire to join the movement. 


Experience Requirements 

  • Professional Experience: 2–4 years of progressive experience in nonprofit management, community organizing, sales, and/or operations leadership.
  • Relationship Building: Proven track record of identifying, acquiring, and maintaining strategic partnerships with faith-based organizations, churches, or community groups. 
  • Volunteer Lifecycle: Direct experience managing volunteer recruitment, onboarding, screening, and long-term engagement workflows. 
  • Regional Familiarity: Strong geographical knowledge of the RDU Triangle area and a history of building local community networks. Strong emphasis on Durham County. 
  • Logistical Management: Experience organizing community events, fundraisers, and managing complex resource distribution. 
  • Licensure: A valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and clean driving record are required due to local travel across the RDU. 
  • Background Check: Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check required for working near vulnerable children and family networks. 


Preferred Education & Experience 

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Human Services, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field is preferred (equivalent professional experience accepted). 
  • Crisis Navigation: Background working in social services, family preservation, or crisis-intervention programs is highly preferred.
