We are always grateful when we get the opportunity to walk with a family over a longer period of time. There are many reasons for this, but one of the main ones is TRUST. We get the opportunity to show up, invest, listen to, and provide resources to both parents and children, ultimately building trust as we prove that we are trustworthy.
Recently, the power of trust built over time and of compassionate volunteers being equipped and ready to show up was demonstrated once again, even in the most unexpected and difficult of circumstances.
Unfortunately, one of the parents we have served for a long time ended up in the hospital tragically. In this moment of crisis, she reached out to the volunteers on her Circle of Support.
Wow, did they show up in so many ways. Her Family Friend went to visit her in the hospital, and two new host families stepped up to host the children. Her Family Coach helped Staff with communicating with the COS, and the coach’s husband accompanied this parent to court.
Trust. Compassion. Presence. They all have the power to make a beautiful impact for good. We are so thankful for volunteers who continually show up so we have that ability to provide trusted care over an extended period of time. Because of these volunteers who are generous with their time and others who are generous with their resources, we can share stories like this one.
